To download files from the CGTech FTP server, you will need the file name or full path to access the file.
Example: ftp://ftp.cgtech.com/Download/file_to_download.zip
Notice to IE7 users: you must connect to the FTP site using a folder view instead of an browser view. The IE7 internet browser view will attempt to open any files that you drag into it rather than uploading them. Use My Computer or Window Explorer to access the FTP site instead.
This document contains general FTP information and instructions on how to use the CGTech FTP site.
The CGTech FTP (File Transfer Protocol) server is
a place for CGTech employees, customers, resellers, and prospects to
exchange files with each other. The site is intended to be accessed by
computers running FTP client programs (see FTP Terminology). It is a
central location with access controlled via login names and passwords.
FTP Server
A computer running a special program which allows
users to "connect" to the computer via the Internet, for the purpose of
transferring files to and from the computer’s disk space.
A user on a computer, running a special program
(known as the FTP Client program), which is connected to an FTP server
via the Internet, transferring files to and from the FTP server’s disk
space. An FTP client program is a dedicated GUI (graphical user interface) program that is used to access FTP servers.
The "name" or "address" of the FTP site, required by
the user’s FTP client program to find the FTP site on the Internet, so
that a connection may be established, and file transfers performed.Addresses typically take the form of "ftp.company.com", but may vary considerably, depending on how the site is configured. When using a web browser (Internet Explorer,
Netscape, Firefox, etc.) to access an FTP site, the URL is generally
"ftp://ftp.company.com".
The user’s assigned FTP login name, which when
combined with their FTP login password, gives them certain access
rights to the FTP site. The most common FTP login name is "anonymous". This
is universally recognized by most FTP servers. The password for the
anonymous login is the user’s email address.
The required password for a particular FTP login, which gives the user certain access rights to the FTP site.
The process of transferring a file up to the FTP site, from the user’s computer.
The process of transferring a file down from the FTP site, to the user’s computer.
WINZIP is a compression utility program readily
available on the PC platform. It compresses one or more files into a
single file, and can have a password assigned to the resultant
compressed file. If a password is assigned, then that file can only be
"unzipped" if the holder of the file knows the password. A file that
has been built using WINZIP is referred to as a "zip file". Such a file
typically has a ".zip" extension.Files built with WINZIP may be made into "self
extracting executables". A "self extracting executable" is a file that
has the ".exe" extension, and when run, it "explodes" itself,
extracting all of the compressed files from itself, and producing them
individually in the current directory. At the end of the "extraction",
the ".exe" compressed file still exists, and the "exploded" individual
files have been created.
